Beverly Soja grew up bicoastal as well as spending her childhood in Japan. She has a BA in Humanities with a concentration in Ceramics from Scripps College, Claremont, CA.   Also, she received her MFA in glass from the Rhode Island School of Design.  Since 1978, she has worked with glass from kiln-to-flame-to-furnace.  She’s given workshops at Colleges, Universities and Art Centers throughout the USA, and currently maintains her private studio “Studio Soja” in Bayside, CA.

Each of Beverly’s lighting designs is individually hand made in her studio.  The base glass is hand rolled.  The imagery is formed with Italian glass-working techniques.  For example: “Trees” style; each branch is individually heated and formed in the flames of a torch and applied to both sides to create a 3D shadow affect.

Suzanne Healy, Owner/VP at ArtisanCrafted.com attests, “Out of 200 artists in our Functional Art Gallery community, Beverly is in the top 10 selling artists. Not only because of the talented, creative and functional style in her lighting and artwork, but because she is professional, a pleasure to work with and business minded. Her positive approach in life is what makes our relationship so successful.”

Beverly was involved with Pilchuck Glass School as a student and teaching assistant as well as an instructor for the Trustees of Pilchuck Glass School. Throughout her career, she has worked with several international artists including, Dale Chihuly (internationally renowned American glass artist). Beverly’s glass works are exhibited worldwide in both public and private collections.
